Wow, I can’t believe that it is already May 1st!! This year has flown by but has been crazy busy. So far 2017 is shaping up to be an epic year in personal growth. (Good, bad, and ugly…. but hey I am becoming a better person for it!)
I have been absent from my blog, but I have worked hard training for my first powerlifting meet. I am competing in the USAPL Atlanta Women’s Open this coming Saturday!! I am very nervous but super excited. Over the past 12 weeks I have focused on improving my deadlift, bench press, and squats. My lifting partner Nicole and I have pushed ourselves and are pleased with our overall progress. Nicole has been my biggest cheerleader and supporter during this whole process. Lifting partner/spotter/videographer… she’s done it all!! I wish she was competing, but alas the meet coincides with her graduation from her master’s program. I will be channeling her energy when I take the platform!
Over this training cycle, I set new maxes for each lift. I am taking my current maxes as my personal record mainly because I am only counting lifts where my form was on point. One of the many things I have learned over this cycle was the importance of proper form. It is amazing the difference just a few adjustments make!!
Goals for the meet.
Meet week preparation.
Honestly… this meet I am going in with the mindset of bringing my A game. It’s me versus me. My goal is to successfully complete all 9 attempts (3 of each lift), to get numbers on the board, and to set new maxes. My biggest challenge is my squat depth; I feel like I am getting lower than I actually am. So I have to make sure I focused and concentrate. I am excited that my very good friends, Kelley and Erin will be there to cheer me on. I will also have my coach Lis there to help me through warm ups and deciding what weight to attempt. (And to help with the math to convert pounds to kilograms lol).
I am so thankful for my family and friends who believe in me. I hope to make you all proud!!
Until next time,
