In like a lion… Welcome to March!

Well hello there March! How the heck did you get here so fast?? January and February were over in a blink of the eye. March is pretty exciting for me as my racing/running season* really takes off. They say that March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. Well, I am ready to go into the roar!!

This has been a good week training wise. Started my Sunday off with a wonderful trail run with Moms RUN this Town. We are kicking off a new trail series which I affectionately named “Run Dirty with Me”. My goal is to introduce more ladies to the awesomeness that is trail running. We are lucky to have a very safe, well maintained trail very close to our town. It is one of my favorite places to run.

On Monday at Training for Warriors we tested for our 1 rep max on bench press. As I did each press, my coach Stephanie would put on more weight. Every time she would say “now this is just a little more than what you just did”. I ended up setting a HUGE PR for myself going from a previous PR of 75 pounds to hitting 109 pounds. Whoop, whoop!

Monday night I finished up the evening at Homegrown Yoga for some Vinyasa flow with Rachel. I absolutely love this class. At the end of the hour my body feels gloriously flexy and drained. It is such a good feeling and I get the BEST sleep on yoga nights. Plus the yoga is helping to improve my running and squats.

Tuesday was a rest day.

Wednesday I woke up with a migraine so I had to miss Training for Warriors. Yeah I know, excuses excuses. But if you get migraines, then you understand. Luckily I was feeling better that night for my yoga fix!! Wednesdays is my two hour block of Hot Method and deep slow stretch with Ashley. Both of these classes are fabulous and are so good for you. I have noticed that by being consistent, my balance and poses are improving. Yay!! (I still look incredibly awkward but gracefulness will come, right??)

Thursday was a run day. Hill repeats in the rain. At least I got to rock my new Skirt Sports gear that arrived in the mail!!!! Today is Friday (yay)!! Started off the morning at Training for Warriors. We tested out our max pull ups for 2 minutes. Sigh….. I am still working on my pull ups. Since I am not able to do one yet, I practiced jumping pull ups. One day I will get there. Just you wait and see. Trust me you won’t miss it, I’ll be taking out a billboard! (Just joking… but not really). 
We did start a new cycle of front squats today. I was motivated by recent PRs that I decided to load the bar up with 109 pounds. Then I squatted 5 sets of 5. (We were only supposed to do 4 sets, but apparently I can’t read that early in the morning). 
Next time I will capture a pic with depth- I need to shorten my camera timer!!

I am really excited about the rest of this month. I have 3 races on the schedule: Undy Run 5K, Perdue Elementary 5K, and the Cherry Blossom 5K. My goals for the month are to keep on improving my strength (lifting heavier each week), working on my yoga practice, and increasing my speed. Specifically, I am working on taking 3 minutes off of my 5K time for my race on April 2nd.  I’ll be eating to improve my performance so hopefully I will have an added benefit of dropping some weight/inches.
