The girl who lived. That is how I want to be remembered. As a woman who lived, loved, laughed.. and did it all with grace. Of course I am a work in progress… in reality I am a hot mess who is quite flawed.
But then.. aren’t we all? So how does a hot mess become a woman who lives and loves with grace?
Whelp… I decided to rewrite my story. Welcome to Chapter One: The girl who lived. I’ve recently decided to implement some positive changes in my life to build a solid base. A tall strong tree has to have strong roots. These small changes have already had an impact on my own life and on my family.
The first change I have made is to adopt Dave Ramsey’s envelope system for my finances. Dave can explain it better, but in a nutshell I have worked out my budget and made envelopes for each budgeted area. For example groceries, gas, utilities, entertainment etc. I can only spend the money designated in each envelope. If I spend all of my entertainment money, then I am done spending until payday. I can NOT “borrow” funds from another envelope. This REALLY makes you think about how much you spend on things and then have nothing to show for the money spent. (Ummm…really how much of my money does Starbucks need?)
The second change I have made is adding in personal development and Bible study EVERY SINGLE DAY. Currently my personal development book that I am working through is The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. It is kind of crazy that I am 43 years old am and I am not real sure what my purpose is. Have you ever had the “this can’t be all there is” thought pop into your head? Well, that has been weighing heavy on my mind here lately. Who am I? Why am I here? How can I help others? What is my purpose? That has been my state of mind for the last few months. So I decided to pray and seek clarity. Which led me to this book. I am on day 9 and am enjoying it so far. It is really challenging to do the self reflection and examination! (humbling too, I might add).
I am also doing First 5 with Proverbs 31 Ministry. It is a cool app that has an alarm and Bible study so that you can spend the first five minutes of your day in the Lord’s word. I love it and it gets me into the perfect mind set for the day!! The current study is on Exodus.
The third change I have made is beginning a yoga practice. I believe that this will help keep me centered and focused. Not to mention the physical changes that yoga will have. (Stay tuned for a blog post about my yoga adventures.) I am also helping out at the yoga studio which will help me out of my shell and let me meet new people!! I am really excited about this.
I figure the most effective change happens from the inside out. Better habits will lead to less stress which allows me to live. Allows me to live the life I love and to be the best me I can be. (cue cheesy music here…. I am picturing the Degrassi- The Next Generation theme song lol). In time this hot mess will become a woman of grace. A girl who lived.
But anywho, if you’ve read this far, thank you for your support. I hope you continue to follow along with my misadventures! Up on the blog tomorrow- my week in review and why I started Couch to 5K all over again.
What changes have you made or want to make to help you grow as a person?
